Vitamins and Minerals
Our extensive range of vitamins and herbal products allow us to advise the most common or unknown products to suit your health needs.
Each month we will have special offers in store including lots of continuous half price offers.
We like our customers to have the knowledge about the products they take and we know not everyone has the time to come in store and speak to us, therefore we have designed this page to help you along. We aim to explain what to look for when buying supplements and explanations on terms and phases. Also each month the page will feature three products, these could be new products, products relating to the time of year or just products we believe everyone should know about.
If you wish to find out more information on any of the products featured, terms used or just information in general please do not hesitate to contact us, we are always happy to share our knowledge.
August
- Echinacea. One many of us will already know about. Can come in tablets, tinctures and liquid extracts. It builds your immune system and helps you to fight colds.
- Manuka honey. Honey has been used for years to treat colds, Manuka honey however is a little different to standard honeys. It comes from New Zealand and can be beneficial both internally and externally. It has many antibacterial properties. "Manuka Honey's anti-bacterial activity is attributed to an enzyme called glucose oxidase, which produces hydrogen peroxide - an antiseptic. Its high sugar concentration also helps to inhibit bacterial growth".
- Elderberry (Sambucol). "Black Elderberry has a more potent antiviral effect than Echinacea" The black elderberry contains nearly 5 times the level of anthocyanins (natural antioxidants) of the blueberry! Elderberry comes in capsules or liquid. There are many varieties of liquid including sugar free and childrens. Unlike fish oil supplements most of the customers who have given Sambucol to their children have said it is a pleasure rather than a chore!

What does UMF mean on Manuka honey and is all Manuka honey Active?
It is not as yet fully understood why only some Manuka honey has an antimicrobial property not shared by other honeys. This property is called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF®) antibacterial property. The presence of this activity can be detected by laboratory testing, which is conducted by the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Honey that is tested and verified to have a level of 10 or more is given a UMF rating and is referred to as 'Active'.
